A food business in Bradford has resumed operations after environmental health officers discovered evidence of rodents during a routine inspection.
Abaseen Peshawari, situated on Willow Street in the Girlington area, received a one-star hygiene rating following the council visit on January 8.
The premises was temporarily closed as a result of the inspection findings.
The establishment’s own marketing materials describe it as a destination for Pakistani cuisine, promoting signature chapli kebabs alongside dishes including chicken karahi, masala fish, omelettes and traditional naan bread.
A mint tea offering is also featured on the menu.
During the inspection, council environmental health officers identified an active rodent presence within the kitchen and storage areas.
Droppings were discovered in multiple locations, including the food preparation zone and storage facility.
Contamination was detected on various surfaces and equipment, including shelving units, pallets, electrical sockets and a dough mixer.
The inspection report noted that sanitised food containers were being stored inside a soiled basin positioned beneath kitchen equipment.
The council determined that conditions presented a substantial risk of both physical and microbial contamination of food items.
The premises was classified as presenting an immediate risk to public health.
The proprietor agreed to cease trading voluntarily and was required to obtain written authorisation from the council before resuming food preparation activities.
Officers additionally documented the presence of accumulated dirt and grease on contact surfaces and beneath equipment.
Records indicated that routine pest control measures and opening and closing procedures had not been consistently implemented, despite documentation suggesting such checks had been conducted on previous occasions.
The business was directed to undertake comprehensive cleaning and sanitisation of all kitchen facilities, storage areas and food-contact surfaces.
Additional requirements included the removal of rodent excrement, cleaning of storage containers, implementation of effective pest control measures and verification that staff members possessed appropriate training for monitoring and corrective procedures.
A complaint from a member of the public also reported discovering a spider inside packaged food from the establishment.
Representatives of Abaseen Peshawari were contacted for response but did not provide comment.
