Multiple product recalls have been issued across British supermarkets this week, affecting items ranging from food products to accessories and skincare goods.
The Food Standards Agency has released alerts concerning several food items that may present health risks to consumers.
Separately, the Office for Product Safety and Standards has advised shoppers to immediately discontinue use of certain non-food products that have been pulled from shelves.
Skincare brand Simple has initiated a recall of its Micellar Cleansing Water product line due to the possible presence of bacteria capable of causing eye inflammation.
The recall impacts multiple bottle sizes sold through retailers including Tesco, Asda and Superdrug.
Affected batches include the 200ml variant with codes 610041, 611641 and 615941, the 400ml version bearing codes 611141, 611341, 611441, 613341, 613441, 614541, 614741 and 614841, and the 730ml size with codes 613841, 613941, 611041, 616641 and 616741.
The batch identification can be located on the underside of each bottle, printed directly onto the packaging.
Simple has expressed regret to customers who may be affected by the recall, acknowledging that such notices can cause concern.
The company has stated that the wellbeing of those who purchase and use their products remains their primary concern.
No other Simple offerings are included in this recall.
Customers have been advised to cease using the affected cleansing water and to contact the company’s consumer careline via email to receive guidance and a refund.
Tesco has separately warned customers about its Finest Caesar and Smoked Bacon Coleslaw product.
The recall stems from a packaging error that has resulted in certain packets potentially containing the Finest Four Cheese Potato Salad instead.
This represents a hazard for individuals with mustard allergies, as the undeclared allergen appears in the potato salad but not on the coleslaw labelling.
The affected product is sold in 270g packaging with a use-by date of September 4.
The Food Standards Agency has confirmed that Tesco is withdrawing the product from customers and has notified relevant allergy support organisations.
Customers with a mustard allergy have been instructed not to consume the coleslaw and to return it to any Tesco location for a complete refund without requiring proof of purchase.
Asda has issued a safety notice regarding three handbag styles that present a serious chemical risk due to elevated phthalate levels.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards has warned that phthalates, particularly Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, may cause harm to children’s health and could damage reproductive systems.
The affected bags do not comply with REACH Regulations requirements.
The recalled products comprise the Front Pocket Xbody Bag with product code 1100258937001 and barcode 5059206286959, the Opp Tote Bag bearing code 1100260834001 and barcode 5059206491797, and the Black Nylon Phone Bag with code 1100258939001 and barcode 505920628577.
Customers have been urged to return these items to any Asda store immediately for a full refund regardless of whether a receipt is held.
Product withdrawals and recalls occur when issues are identified with goods that prevent them from being sold safely.
The Food Standards Agency distributes Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to inform consumers and local authorities of associated problems.
In certain circumstances, a Food Alert for Action is issued to provide local authorities with specific instructions regarding consumer protection measures.
