John Pickles, the producer responsible for the Jive Bunny music compilations, has died at the age of 84, according to an announcement from Mastermix.
Pickles established Jive Bunny And The Mastermixers in Rotherham during 1989.
According to Mastermix, Pickles founded The Music Factory Entertainment Group, Mastermix, and the Jive Bunny brand.
The company stated that Pickles was a visionary leader, enterprising businessman, and skilled songwriter who pioneered innovative approaches within the music sector.
Pickles’s approach to music influenced individuals throughout the global music community, according to those who knew his work.
Those who worked closely with him regarded him as a paternal figure.
The ensemble consisted of Pickles, his son Andrew, and Les Hemstock, a disc jockey and producer based in Doncaster.
Andrew subsequently served as a director at Mastermix.
The group’s recordings blended contemporary popular music with tracks from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, incorporating synthesiser technology and sampling techniques.
The act accumulated five UK top 10 singles, three of which reached number one, alongside a top 10 studio album titled Jive Bunny The Album.
Visual branding featured animated rabbit imagery across album artwork and promotional videos, with performers in costume portraying the character.
Mastermix issued a new Jive Bunny production titled 3, 6, 9 in December 2024, describing the release as a tribute to the project’s foundational elements while incorporating contemporary production techniques.
