A new artisan pie business has launched at Darley Street Market in Bradford, bringing a selection of handmade savoury pastries to the city centre venue.
The establishment, named Kneads Must Pies, has opened within the market’s food court area and offers a variety of traditional and innovative flavour combinations to customers.
The company is operated by Chris Hall alongside associate Sully Hemming.
Hall previously spent seven years producing pies at the Jacob’s Well public house before deciding to establish this dedicated market presence.
Core menu offerings include classic varieties such as pork, corned beef with potato, and lentil and vegetable curry.
Limited edition specials feature combinations like pork with tikka masala, alongside a three-cheese option incorporating Yorkshire cream cheese, Gouda, and Applewood smoked cheddar with onions.
Vegetarian and vegan selections are available every day.
Side dishes comprise beans, peas, gravy, and mashed potato, with additional sauces and beverages also on offer.
Ingredients are procured from other businesses trading within the market premises.
The venture received endorsement from city councillors, with local authority figures expressing enthusiasm about supporting independent traders operating within the market environment.
The shop’s opening coincided with a cultural event celebrating Bradford’s historical association with pie cuisine.
Local performer Glyn Watkins staged a theatrical presentation honouring author JB Priestley, featuring a large model of a pie inspired by a story from 1940.
During wartime bombing raids, Priestley broadcast internationally about a Bradford pie shop on Godwin Street that had reportedly been destroyed, only to discover upon investigation that the establishment remained standing and operational.
