The supermarket chain Tesco has issued a recall notice for one of its prepared food products due to the potential presence of an undeclared allergen.
The item affected is the Tesco Finest Caesar & Smoked Bacon Coleslaw, sold in 270 gram packages with a use-by date of September 4.
The recall has been initiated following the discovery of a packaging mix-up, which has resulted in some units containing the Tesco Finest Four Cheese Potato Salad instead.
The substitution means that certain packages of the coleslaw actually hold a product containing mustard, an ingredient that does not appear on the original coleslaw label.
For individuals with a mustard allergy, consuming the affected item poses a potential health risk.
The Food Standards Agency confirmed that Tesco is removing the implicated product from sale and has notified relevant allergy support organisations, which will communicate the recall information to their members.
The company has also distributed recall notices to customers providing details about why the product is being withdrawn and what steps consumers should take if they have purchased it.
Consumers who have acquired the product and have a mustard allergy have been advised against eating it.
Instead, they should return the item to any Tesco outlet to obtain a complete refund, and proof of purchase is not required.
Tesco has stated that no other products in its range are impacted by this recall.
The packaging error applies solely to the specified batch of the coleslaw product.
