The initiative brought together more than 70 participants at a city centre venue on the final Sunday of August, all eager to explore how artificial intelligence tools might help address local employment challenges.
Attendees received practical instruction in AI fundamentals and prompt engineering techniques, gaining capabilities to develop digital solutions targeting barriers facing young job seekers in the area.
The lead facilitator guided participants through constructing AI-driven applications before presenting the day’s central challenge focused on helping young people establish connections with mentors, arrange workplace observation opportunities, and access professional networks beneficial for career advancement.
A demonstration application and accompanying documentation were created to illustrate the concept, after which teams collaborated to design their own solutions.
Over the course of roughly an hour, participants identified obstacles within the employment sector and refined AI-powered concepts to address them.
Submissions underwent assessment against criteria including practical user benefit, product design reasoning, prototype quality, and creative innovation.
The winning entry, developed by a group called Future Path, consisted of a platform enabling young people to connect with career mentors and obtain work shadowing placements.
Speaking afterward, one of the judges encouraged participants to continue pursuing these ideas beyond the event itself and to maximise the potential of AI technology for addressing community challenges.
Several organisations provided sponsorship and support for the gathering, while individual contributors assisted across design, documentation, event coordination, and photography roles.
This inaugural event represents the first phase of a larger initiative intended to establish comparable programmes in additional British cities, with the next edition currently in the planning stages.
The broader effort aims to equip young people with practical capabilities in AI development and product creation applicable across the digital employment landscape.
