A man has been imprisoned after being found guilty of causing a grandfather’s death through careless driving while operating an uninsured and unlicensed motorcycle.
Reece Manley, aged 26 and residing in Welford Road, Filey, received a 14-month custodial sentence after pleading guilty to the offence.
The collision occurred on 26 March 2022 along the A6110 ring road in Wortley.
Manley was astride a Kawasaki EX machine when he collided with 75-year-old Alan Lloyd, who was traversing the roadway at the time.
The victim’s relatives expressed through a court statement that their father had not been prepared to depart and that the family had not anticipated losing him under such circumstances.
They described being denied the opportunity to embrace him, express their affection, or offer farewells.
Detective Sergeant Nina Roper of the Major Collision Enquiry Team stated that Mr Lloyd’s passing had clearly devastated his family, as evidenced by their victim statement, and that investigators’ thoughts continued to accompany them.
She noted that Manley’s conduct had deprived them of creating further treasured memories with a beloved father and grandfather who had been savouring retirement following a lifetime of dedicated work.
