Members of the public expressed concern after clothing and bra inserts were discovered scattered throughout a supermarket car park in West Yorkshire.
Images emerged on social media platforms showing bin bags containing garments positioned outside clothing collection containers at the Morrisons site in Heckmondwike.
The photographs were shared within a private online community group.
Upon inspection by reporters from the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the discarded bin bags appeared to have been cleared away.
However, accumulations of garments remained surrounding the waste containers, with undergarment padding and additional fabric items visible across the surrounding pavement.
One local resident, speaking anonymously to journalists, stated that the scene was unpleasant to witness.
She explained that automotive traffic had been passing over the scattered padding materials.
The individual also noted concerns regarding resource wastage, highlighting that dampened items become unsuitable for reuse.
A second member of the community, who similarly declined to provide her name, indicated that she had recently deposited two boxes of clothing into one of the collection points, describing the containers as appearing vacant.
She expressed disappointment at observing the garments dispersed across the area and suggested the materials were liable to be blown across the road surface.
The discarded textiles were observed on September 1 at the Morrisons location in Heckmondwike.
Despite the collection facilities being situated on privately owned land, representatives from Kirklees Council emphasised that instances of illegal waste disposal should be directed to the local authority for appropriate action.
A Morrisons company representative stated that the situation was being treated with appropriate gravity.
The spokesperson indicated that collaboration with relevant organisations was underway to prioritise clearing the affected area.
The company also announced intentions to arrange more frequent collection schedules to minimise the likelihood of similar occurrences developing in future.
