A public house with origins dating back four centuries is scheduled for auction later this year.
The Pack Horse Inn, located in Widdop in the vicinity of Hebden Bridge, will be offered for sale through BTG Eddisons Property Auctions on October 1.
The property carries a guide price of £350,000.
Constructed from millstone grit around 1610, the establishment originally served travellers moving textile goods between Yorkshire and Lancashire.
Over subsequent generations, the venue accommodated workers involved in regional reservoir construction projects.
More recently, the establishment gained popularity among climbing enthusiasts.
Situated along the Pennine Way long-distance footpath, the venue operated for numerous generations as a pub and restaurant catering to visitors.
Trading ceased in March 2025, with the premises having remained closed for more than a year prior to the auction announcement.
Will Thompson, a director at BTG Eddisons Property Auctions, described the property as possessing a notable historical background alongside an unusual location.
Thompson noted that the establishment had formed part of the Upper Calder Valley community for centuries and that its positioning along the Pennine Way ensured consistent custom from walkers, climbers and cyclists.
Thompson observed that prospective purchasers would face a considerable undertaking given the extended period the premises had been shuttered.
