Sex offender Keith Lockwood given further 15 months for indecent assaults

A sex offender already serving a lengthy prison term has had his sentence extended after being found guilty of additional crimes.

Keith Lockwood, 72, previously of Park Lane, Keighley, received an additional 15-month term at Leeds Crown Court on September 1.

The offences involved two male victims in Kirklees and occurred between the late 1970s and early 1990s.

Lockwood is currently serving a 23-year sentence for previously abusing schoolchildren.

Detective Constable Gilly Hodds, from Kirklees District Police, stated that the latest conviction and sentencing hold the defendant accountable for additional crimes committed against children under his care.

The courage and determination of both victims, now in their 50s and 60s, was acknowledged by police.

These individuals have endured the psychological impact of the abuse for decades and were subsequently required to recount their experiences during court proceedings due to Lockwood’s failure to acknowledge his actions.

One complainant travelled from North America specifically to provide testimony in person.

In July, Lockwood was found guilty of indecently assaulting one victim who was aged between 14 and 15 during the period spanning May 1979 to May 1981.

He was also convicted of three indecent assaults committed against a second complainant between March 1988 and March 1991, with the victim having been 12 years old when the abuse commenced.

In a victim impact statement, one survivor expressed that Keith Lockwood had destroyed his life for 47 years, bearing sole responsibility for robbing him of his childhood.

The individual stated satisfaction with the guilty verdict and the jury’s rejection of the defendant’s false claims.

The 2024 conviction encompassed offences including gross indecency with a child and sexual assault spanning more than three decades in Kirklees.

Lockwood remains subject to the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.

DC Hodds indicated that West Yorkshire Police continues its dedication to safeguarding vulnerable individuals within communities and ensuring that those responsible for offences are brought before the courts.

Individuals who have experienced sexual abuse, whether recent or historical, are encouraged to report their experiences.

As demonstrated by this case, the time elapsed since an offence does not prevent investigation, and those who come forward will be heard, supported, and treated with respect throughout the legal process.

The 2024 conviction followed a unanimous jury decision regarding 23 non-recent sexual offences committed in Kirklees during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.
