A traffic incident on the M62 motorway has resulted in significant disruption for drivers travelling westbound.
A spillage near Junction 28 at Bradford Road in Tingley has forced the closure of two carriageway lanes on the affected stretch.
The closure impacts westbound traffic between Junction 31, where the A655 intersects the route at Castleford, and Junction 27, which connects to the M621 at Gildersome.
Traffic monitoring systems recorded average vehicle speeds decreasing to 10mph in the vicinity of the incident.
National Highways: Yorkshire confirmed that remediation work to address the spillage is currently underway.
A representative indicated that westbound drivers should anticipate journey times extending by approximately 30 minutes, with queueing traffic extending roughly four miles from the incident location.
An earlier traffic update confirmed that lanes two and three remained closed following the spillage.
The National Highways spokesperson added that resurfacing operations are expected to take place later during the morning.
Motorists have been advised to plan for additional journey time while the clean-up operation continues.
