Bradford Arts Centre has unveiled an ambitious autumn schedule showcasing an eclectic range of comedic performances, narrative events and classical South Asian movement arts.
Among the programme highlights, the Kala Chethena Kathakaliali Company will deliver its concluding United Kingdom appearance before returning to India.
The centre has partnered with international organisation Kala Sangam Global to present significant performances rooted in Indian classical traditions.
Kala Sangam Global was established twelve months ago by Arts Centre founders Dr Shripati Upadhyaya and Dr Geetha Upadhayaya.
The venue operates from premises within St Peter’s House and has established itself as a principal platform for South Asian dance and contemporary performance within the region.
The organisation supports emerging artistic talent through various initiatives spanning live performance, professional development for practitioners, dance instruction, educational outreach and community engagement.
Facilities at the venue include areas designated for performance and rehearsal, rooms available for meetings and social gatherings, and studio accommodation offered to visiting artists.
The programme encompasses seasonal performance series, professional development schemes, instructional dance sessions, school partnerships and community-focused activities designed to foster creative advancement throughout the district.
The original entity, established under the name Kala Sangam in 1993, takes its title from Sanskrit terminology where Kala denotes artistic endeavour and Sangam signifies a convergence point.
Relocation occurred in 2008 to the historic Forster Square premises formerly occupied by the General Post Office.
A substantial renovation project costing several million pounds enabled the venue’s reopening under its current designation during the previous autumn season, introducing a theatre space, rehearsal studios, conference facilities and administrative offices.
