A 29-year-old man is facing a murder charge in connection with the death of his infant son, who was just four weeks old.

Niall Worsfold, from Farrow Road in Farnley, is scheduled to appear before Leeds Magistrates Court on Thursday in relation to the infant’s death.

The newborn boy passed away in hospital on 10 July 2020, having been taken to the medical facility six days prior on 4 July 2020 following a 999 call to a property on Lincombe Drive in the Gledhow district of Leeds.

In addition to the murder allegation, Worsfold has also been charged with a single count of child cruelty.

He remains in custody pending his court appearance.

A 25-year-old woman who had been detained as part of the inquiry has been discharged without charge.

Detectives from West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team conducted the investigation.

A force spokesperson confirmed that Worsfold has been charged with murdering his one-month-old son, who was admitted to hospital on 4 July 2020 from the Lincombe Drive property in Gledhow and subsequently died on 10 July 2020. The spokesperson added that he faces an additional charge of child cruelty and has been remanded to appear at Leeds Magistrates Court on Thursday. The 25-year-old woman arrested during the inquiry has been released with no further action.
