Shipley Town Council is inviting residents to put forward exceptional people and organisations for the 2026 Shipley Community Awards, which celebrate those who contribute positively to the town through compassion, imagination, and dedication to their neighbours.
Helen Mawson, who serves as deputy town clerk, explained that the annual awards highlight the remarkable efforts taking place throughout Shipley by individuals who never seek acknowledgment. She encouraged people to take a few moments to submit a nomination for anyone from a resident who has quietly helped others for many years, to a youngster with an innovative idea, or an organisation that has improved part of the town. According to her, nominating someone represents one of the kindest gestures one can offer another person.
The scheme features five distinct prizes: the Long Service Award, the Young Person’s Award, the Inspiring Others Award, the Caring for the Community Award, and the Promoting Shipley Award.
Those selected will be revealed during the Annual Town Meeting scheduled for May 14, 2026.
Submissions are welcome from any individual residing, employed, or carrying out voluntary work within Shipley, with no restriction on how many candidates or groups one person may out forward.
Applications from oneself are not permitted.
Entry forms together with complete instructions can be obtained from shipleytowncouncil.gov.uk/community-awards.
All nominations must be received by 5pm on Friday, May 8, 2026.
