Pupils at Rainbow Primary Leadership Academy took part in an energetic mini marathon, swapping their usual school uniforms for sportswear.

The school, situated on Nelson Street close to Bradford’s town centre, followed a two-mile route inspired by the TCS Mini London Marathon in Schools programme.

The activity drew from a national wellbeing campaign, inviting young participants to take part in various physical exercises around a purpose-built track on the grounds, completing six laps through the recreation space and alongside the playing field.

Every lap finished earned youngsters a wristband in a different colour, providing a visible record of their progress towards completing the full two-mile distance.

Since its launch in 2020, this nationwide initiative has inspired more than one million young people across Britain to join movement-based pursuits, prioritising accessibility and participation – values clearly displayed throughout the day at Rainbow Primary.

The focus stayed on individual achievement rather than competition, with no recognition given to those who finished most quickly. Those who completed the course earlier stayed to support other pupils and staff members, cheering them on as they approached the finish line.

Jon Harris, Headteacher at Rainbow Primary Leadership Academy, praised the pupils for their enthusiasm and determination.

Mr. Harris said the school understood the importance of promoting physical health alongside academic education to develop well-rounded children.

He added that the institution took pride in offering varied sporting opportunities for its pupils, all of whom were willing to push themselves with new experiences.

He pointed out that for many pupils, the two-mile distance presented a significant test of endurance and willpower. Seeing the children support each other proved uplifting, and the joy visible on their faces when crossing the finish line was rewarding. The school congratulated every pupil who completed the challenge with such positivity.

The school described the event as a celebration of perseverance, mutual encouragement and shared spirit, with teachers acknowledging how the children motivated one another throughout the activity.
