A COMMERCIAL bin has been stolen from a Bradford business for the second time, prompting the company director to tighten up security.
Asim Ali, director of Eastern Ventilation & ENG LTD, bemoaned the fact that nothing can be left unattended these days.
At around 1am on Friday, April 15, CCTV picks up the bin being stolen from his business premises in Garnett Street, Barkerend.
And this isn’t the first time the company’s bin has been stolen, the 27-year-old explained.
Back in 2022, in a bizarre turn of events, the company bought its own stolen bin back for £20 after spotting it on the back of a horse and cart outside its headquarters – which the T&A reported on at the time.
This time round, the bin was spotted elsewhere.
But before they spotted it days later, they made efforts to track the missing bin down.
“We tried to get hold of the individual, maybe someone who might have known some information regarding who it was,” Mr Ali told the T&A.
“With no avail, we contacted Bradford waste collections who deal with commercial waste and they had told us that a new bin would cost approximately £200 plus VAT and would increase collection costs.”

On Tuesday, April 21 one of the company’s employees spotted the bin on the side of the road next to the roundabout just off Otley Road.
This time round there was no horse and cart in sight, but it was filled to the brim with someone else’s rubbish.
Out of nowhere, the binmen appeared
As serendipity would have it, just as the employee spotted the bin, refuse collectors were passing and were flagged down. They kindly removed the waste contained within the bin.
As a result of the bin theft, Mr Ali has decided to tighten up security.
“Going forward we will now have a tracker placed monitoring the bin’s location and a chain and padlock to help prevent the big from being lost,” added Mr Ali.

“I think the fact that a person would steal a bin just shows that nothing can be left unattended in this day and age, and that there is a serious lack of trust out there.
“To combat this the council should put permanent marking with business details and addresses so they are unusable anywhere else.”
What Bradford Council had to say
A Bradford Council spokesperson said: “We are very sorry to hear about a trade waste bin being stolen but it’s good that it could be recovered by the business owner. Perhaps the incident should have been reported to the police.
“Our trade waste bins are delivered to customers with a sticker and the business details attached. All trade waste bins are fitted with RFID tags which also hold the customer info. It is also advised that businesses take steps to ensure their bins are secured.
