A collectors’ item featuring the famous character Peter Rabbit on a 50p piece has fetched over £1,500 through the online marketplace.
The special coin was issued by the official mint in 2019 as one of just 500 pieces, with an original asking price of £980.
The listing described the item as being in pristine condition and noted it included original packaging along with proof of authenticity.
Nine buyers placed bids before the final sale price reached £1,552.40.
Buyers also paid an additional £11.95 for shipping.
The piece displays an image of the popular bunny character designed by Beatrix Potter.
This marked the inaugural occasion where a gold proof coin depicting Peter Rabbit was issued separately by the mint.
According to the seller’s listing: “This limited edition coin celebrates the beloved character created by Beatrix Potter and is a valuable addition to any coin collection.
“With its charming design and mint condition, this coin is a perfect gift for any avid coin enthusiast or fan of Peter Rabbit.”
The 22 carat gold piece can no longer be purchased directly from the mint.
