A new bid has been lodged seeking permission to keep a takeaway entrance that conservation staff previously characterised as clashing with its surroundings.
Planning officials rejected a retrospective request for updated shopfront features and metal security shutters at the Texas Crispy premises on Saltaire Road in Bradford during the previous year.
Mr Jon Ackroyd, the council’s heritage specialist, observed that the site sits along a primary corridor leading to the Saltaire World Heritage Site. He noted that the visual design, building materials, external metal screens and bold signage work together to produce an appearance that stands out inappropriately from its historic environment.
Security barriers deemed necessary
A fresh retrospective submission has now been put forward by M Gulbhar to preserve the shopfront as it currently exists.
This version differs marginally from the version previously turned down and from what is physically there at present. Areas of the existing solid black facade would be swapped for wooden panelling.
The signage would also be upgraded.
However, the proposal retains the roller shutters, stating these are essential for protection purposes.
The submission states: this application represents a clear enhancement compared to the installation that was carried out without consent and tackles the concerns flagged up by the planning compliance team.
An outcome on this request is anticipated in June.
