Plans could see two Yeadon schools merge if town officials give their approval.

Committees governing Westfield Infant and Junior schools have tabled the idea, which would create a single primary establishment catering to children between three and eleven years old.

If the plan moves forward, the Junior School on New Road would shut its doors at the end of August.

Students would instead enrol at the existing infant school premises on Westfield Grove from September onwards.

Leeds City Council’s executive board holds the final say on this issue, with councillors set to gather on June 17.

A council paper explained that the governing body of Yeadon Westfield Infant School wishes to extend the school’s age range from three to seven years up to three to eleven years from the first of September.

The infant school would become a primary school while Westfield Junior School would stop functioning on the thirty-first of August.

The paper noted that a consultation was happening following the release of an official announcement.

Responses were being sought from mums and dads, secondary headteachers in the locality, local authority members, and professional associations.

The paper added that during the consultation window, any person may put forward remarks or concerns about the scheme.

Views from the wider learning community and other stakeholders would be collected throughout this consultation period.
