A fresh Greggs bakery is currently being built on land opposite Odsal Stadium.

Bradford Council gave approval last year for proposals to demolish the vacant Angel Telecom premises at Odsal Top and erect a modern retail outlet in its stead.

The application, put forward by Harry Khinda, did not identify the eventual tenant for the structure.

Building work on the new premises is progressing, and paperwork submitted this week confirms the space will accommodate a Greggs outlet.

The unit stands next to the Top House public house and overlooks the Bradford Bulls stadium directly.

Operating hours proposed for the Odsal Greggs branch have been outlined in documentation submitted by Greggs PLC.

The bakery plans to trade from 6am until 9pm on weekdays and Saturdays, with Sunday trading from 7am to 6pm.

The project is expected to result in two full-time and three part-time employment positions.

Preserving site vitality and functionality

In remarks provided by planning consultant Daniel Phillips of JMS Planning & Development: The existing unit falls within Use Class E.

Due to this designation, full planning consent is not required to operate a bakery at the premises as this activity is permitted under the same classification.

The proposed refurbishment of the existing retail space will maintain and strengthen the site’s ongoing vitality and viability while generating additional employment opportunities within the local area.

A decision on the signage application is expected during June.
